One of the most effective ways to get into a banded-row is to do a form of meditation called “meditation of the eye.” You can do this meditation by looking at a picture of the person or place you are addressing (the picture will be centered in your eye-line), and then closing your eyes. Then, as you breathe slowly and calmly, you will feel a calming tingling in your body.
That calming tingling actually makes it easier to close your eyes, so don’t worry about doing it too soon. By closing your eyes, you will be able to focus your mind and focus your visual attention on the picture you are addressing.
The seated banded row meditation teaches us many things, but one of the most important things it teaches is this: You can sit in a comfortable, relaxed way. Relaxing your body allows you to focus your mind on something else. Closing your eyes allows your body to relax. When you focus your mind on something, it allows you to focus your thoughts on something that is more important than what you are doing.
