You are so in-tune with yourself.” I responded, “No, I am in tune with myself.” He said, “And I love how you are in tune with me.” I said, “I am.” He said, “And, I love how you are in tune with me.” I said, “I am.
In other words, if our relationships with ourselves are not based on our true inner feelings and desires, then we are operating on a completely false foundation.
In the context of the movie, Laurie Hamilton is one of the few people who is really in tune with themselves. And that’s why when she’s in her Hollywood Hills apartment, she really is going through a routine. She’s having a glass of red wine, wearing a blazer, and she’s reading a magazine. I’ll put it this way, she’s doing it “in tune.
She’s got it dialed to a beat that’s just right for her. Her routine is a great example of the type of “mindfulness of the self” that can make it so we know we need to take things in new directions. So many of us have “set routines” that we have to follow because we are afraid to change.
You need to change, Laurie. One of the ways that we all live our lives is by creating routines, and the good ones are ones that are so good they make us want to do them again. Like Laurie’s, your routine is just right, and you just keep doing it. We all have routines. You can’t make them happen by thinking, “Oh, I have to get there at 6 a.m.
You can’t get there at 6 a.m. But, no, you can create a routine that will get you there in the morning. That’s the trick. All you need is the ability to do anything and then the ability to stick to that plan. If you don’t like the way that routine is working for you, then you’ve got to create a completely different routine, which is what we did.
And that is the secret to making a routine work for you. You have to take action, and it has to be a new routine that you create that you dont like, one that doesnt work for you but that you know will work for someone else.
Our routine started out as pretty simple: wake up and read the newspaper. Then we had to do it twice, so by the time we were done reading the paper, it was 2:30. And then we were supposed to get dressed and go to the bar. But when we got there we realized that it was 4:00, and we had to get a drink somewhere else because they only let us in at 4:00.
When we go to the bar, we have to sit at the bar. Then we have to stand up and start talking to people, sometimes in order to get them to talk to us. Then we have to stand up and walk back to the table. Then we have to walk back to the bar. Then we have to start all over again. I think it’s a pretty basic routine that will work for everyone who reads this.
The main reason why I think it’s a good routine is because it’s simple. It’s as simple as that.
