I’ve heard the amayes soul food is one of those dishes that is always a hit and it is always a meal that you want to have on your menu. It is just that the cooking method is a little more unique than most. The recipe I found, which is similar to a traditional Italian-American dish, is a little on the “high” side of what most people would consider a good recipe.
Once you cook amays soul food, the next step is to get it on the table. That’s where I got my inspiration for the recipe, which is a recipe for a vegan amays soul food dish. It is basically just a mix of tomatoes and broccoli that is then sauteed until it all melts together. To make it even better, we can add a few drops of olive oil and some chili powder to it.
The recipe below is made with lots of ingredients that are easily available at your local supermarket, but I’ve also included a recipe that calls for dried lentils. I recommend you try both for a new recipe, and if you have any suggestions for additions, let me know.
A vegan version of the standard amays soul food recipe, this one requires a bit of effort, but the end result is worth it. The traditional recipe calls for a bit of meat to be added (which is fine) and also a lot of other ingredients (which are problematic). For example, instead of the usual tomatoes, we use a lot of dried tomatoes.
I love this recipe for a couple reasons. First, it’s a nice change of pace from other amays soul food recipes. There isn’t much meat in this recipe, just a bit of dried lentils and a bit of coconut oil. The lentils and coconut oil are important because they make the dish so easy to digest. The dried lentils are also important because they give a nice textured texture to the dish.
Secondly, this recipe takes up a lot of space in the grocery store, and its also a bit pricey. For this recipe, we use 3 canned coconut milk-based soups (our own recipe for each kind of soup, you can check it out here), along with about 2 dozen canned meatballs (you can check them out here).
We can’t say for sure whether this recipe is delicious because we just ate it, but it sounds so good. It’s basically a mix of chili, curry, and Thai soup. Now I like to have one of each of those soups on hand whenever I’m craving that particular dish.
In this case I went with the Thai soup for the first time, because it has a bit of heat and spice to it, but it was good. I had it with a rice pilaf. I think one of my favorite things to do is to have homemade rice pilaf at the house. It’s very healthy and filling.
This is one of those recipes that I think is so easy to make and easy to eat. Its perfect for breakfast. If you want to get really creative with it or go for the easy option, add a little bit of ginger along with the turmeric and chili powder. It tastes great.
Its also an amazing way to use up all of the coconut milk on the island.
