this post is a long one. I wanted to let you know what I learned about essential calories from a recent episode of The Dr. Oz Show. Let me just say it isn’t hard to learn anything. The show taught me so much more about being healthy. I learned so much more about how to eat and exercise, the importance of water, and so much more. Plus, I got to meet Dr. Oz and his wife.
The Dr. Oz Show brought together Dr. Oz, his wife, and his daughter. They went through all the same workouts as me, and they got so much nutrition info that I can only wish they were my parents.
For those of you who don’t know what essential calories are, they are the calories that you need to meet your daily macronutrient needs. At least that’s what the Dr. Oz show’s nutritionist told me. Basically there aren’t that many calories in the world that you need, but if you’re low on macronutrient density, you may feel like you’re missing out.
The other thing that the Dr. Oz showed me was how much protein I needed to meet my daily protein needs. If youre low on this, you may feel like youre missing out on key nutrients like protein and fats.
In the past, we’ve recommended that we eat enough protein to meet our daily macronutrient needs, and even though it’s not strictly necessary (ie. we can eat enough fat, carbs, and protein and still be able to function), it keeps our energy levels sharp and our weight down during a busy work week.
So basically, if you do 1,000 mg of protein a day, you are going to burn 1,000 calories. That means youre going to be able to get through an entire day with no cramps, or fatigue, or muscle soreness. Protein also keeps you full, so in the evening you don’t stop for a snack.
Eating more is good but not essential. If you are having a hard time staying full, it might be time to cut back on carbs and fats. You don’t have to eat as much protein but eating a lot of carbs and fats will keep you full. It also helps with recovery from physical activity and will keep your weight down.
Your body can actually burn calories in the long run, so it doesnt hurt to eat more. One thing you can do to help is to eat more protein. This will keep you fuller and give you more energy.
According to the Mayo Clinic, eating more protein will keep your blood sugar stable, which will in turn help you get a better night’s sleep. According to the same source, eating more protein will help you digest food a bit more efficiently, which will help you feel fuller longer. We also found that eating more protein also gives you more energy if you are a couch potato who is constantly in the basement watching Game of Thrones.
Protein is an incredibly underrated macronutrient and it’s good to get some of it every day. Unfortunately, protein is expensive. Even if it were on a par with your daily macronutrient intake, it would still cost you nearly $20 a day. But that’s not the point. The point is that protein is a great way to add value to your diet.
