So you’ve been doing a lot of cross-training. You’re getting in great shape. You’re getting fitter. You’re getting toned. One day you’re flying a plane. The next day you’re swimming. That kind of thing.
As it turns out, it’s not just our bodies that are getting toned these days. In 2008, researchers from the University of Wisconsin-Madison found that regular exercise helps our brains. They say that exercise improves our mental abilities, and this may be partly due to the fact that our brains are constantly trying to keep up with our busy lifestyles. So if youre a morning person, maybe you need to go for a hike instead of working out.
In the same research, they also found that people who exercise regularly are less likely to have memory problems. And interestingly, the same study that found no connection between exercise and memory also found that people who exercise regularly are less likely to suffer from depression as well.
The more hours you put into your exercise regimen, the less likely you are to suffer from depression. But if you are already depressed, maybe you’re not exercising enough.
I was surprised by this part of the research. The researchers also found that when people exercise regularly, their mood is generally good. I guess this is sort of like saying that people who exercise regularly are more likely to be happier. I thought that maybe they were finding that because their exercise was keeping their mood up that they were less depressed, but now I’m not so sure.
The only time I had a really bad mood was when I was home alone and I didn’t know how to get to the gym. I found that if I walked to the gym I was pretty good at walking and the walk helped me to get my workout in. If I got a lift or started running, I was pretty good at that too. So maybe I was just getting good at walking and running.
I guess I have to go and see if the gym is open yet, but if it is, I could try running there a couple times a week. Maybe I will even try out the workout I have on the board for the gym. And if it makes my mood better, I might buy an exercise bike just so I can get a cardio boost.
I wish I could say I was getting better at walking, running, or even just getting a workout at the gym. I don’t know if I am. I don’t even know if I am getting better at these three things. But I am getting better as a person, and that makes me feel awesome.
Maybe the reason I don’t exercise is because I am lazy or out of shape. The truth is I am really just trying to avoid doing it.I don’t know what it is that I am doing that is making me do it. The thing is I want to be better at it. I want to feel better about myself. I want to feel like I can do so much more. I don’t want to be the person that is always getting in shape.
So what do you do to feel like you can do more? You do what you do because you feel good about it. You look good, you feel good. You do it for a reason.
