I started the year by being asked to do a series of Instagram-based videos on hyperpigmentation skin care. I’d seen the images and videos that are being created to help people with hyperpigmentation and wanted to add my own to help others understand the conditions.
It’s not hyperpigmentation as such, but it’s a type of pigment that is darkly pigmented and therefore very visible. Hyperpigmentation is often used to describe skin that is not tan at all, only darkly pigmented. This condition is often caused by stress and hormonal imbalances. And its also a major reason why people who are taking these meds are advised to cut out the drugs as soon as possible. Its something that is hard to treat, and it will usually resolve itself on its own, but you should always check with your doctor.
Hyperpigmentation is typically caused by too much of something. If you are taking steroids or other hormones, it is well understood that their effects are not well understood and there is a reasonable chance for side effects, but a lot of people with this skin condition are taking these hormones for medical reasons and its not something that can be easily addressed with a topical treatment. Its also important to remember that steroids or other hormones can have a very serious and even permanent effect on the skin.
Hyperpigmentation is a very serious condition that can be treated with a topical retinoid, but its very rare that a retinoid will help you. In fact, its common cause is just too much sun exposure. So be careful when using sun-cream on your skin and don’t forget to cover up when you are going to work out at the gym.
Here’s a good tip though, try to wear sunscreen all over your body. The reason for this is that the sun can cause our skin to break out in hyperpigmentation. If you are unsure of the cause of the hyperpigmentation, apply an antiperspirant to your skin. Its very important for you to keep a smooth skin with no signs of hyperpigmentation.
The good news is that hyperpigmentation (or any skin condition) is treatable! So I’d suggest that you see your dermatologist for treatment immediately.
