I like to go for weight loss for the sake of weight loss, and to get my fitness level higher. Once you’ve lost a few pounds, you can go for a more aggressive weight-lifting workout, something more intense than the typical deadlift. It might involve jumping rope, pushups, pulling weight, or other exercises designed to build muscle.
You would think that you can do that by dieting, but this is not the case. That is, despite your determination to lose weight, none of your efforts are likely to result in a successful weight-loss. The problem is that dieting alone will not enable you to gain muscle mass, but it will lead to much more significant weight gain than dieting alone.
For most people who are overweight, losing weight will do nothing to change their body composition. The reason is simple: muscle weighs less than fat. To gain muscle, you need more fat.
