For runners who are not able to run barefoot, this is usually caused by being in a shoe that is too tight. In this case, wearing a shoe with a full, comfortable heel is necessary in order to have a normal, healthy stride.

And when you are running barefoot, you are also likely wearing a heel cup, which is another form of foot sandal. These are usually more comfortable than a running shoe, but are not as supportive. They help to strengthen the plantar fascia, or sole of the foot, by providing shock absorbers.

A good heel cup will help prevent overuse injury, so if you are prone to heel pain, it’s probably a good idea to get a good pair. But if you are a runner and don’t have a pair, you should definitely consider buying a new pair.

The good news is that the majority of people will have good, secure shoes to wear. The bad news is that most of them are going to be expensive and not designed for someone who is just starting out. The good news is that it is likely going to help keep you running without pain, so it helps. The bad news is that you should definitely consider buying a new pair.
