1. When you’re a token marketing expert, your job is more difficult
If you manage to win over your boss and get the approval to work on marketing, then you have to go through the motions and make sure that the Marketing department is seen as meaningful by those higher up. Each time that your boss asks for approval from higher-ups, you have to make sure that there is something substantial to show. When it comes down to it, people are going to want tangible results and something they can see. 2. You’ll have to handle the workload of at least two people
Since you are a token expert and not really a marketing expert, you are going to have to work at least twice as hard. But since you can’t prove that your efforts are fruitful and you don’t have the expertise, it’s a struggle just getting your efforts appreciated. So, you end up working twice as hard but still questioning if anyone notices your efforts.
3. You aren’t trusted by your employer
If the company owner or manager is in charge of marketing, then you probably feel like an outsider. Not only does everyone know that their role is more important than yours but they also question if you know what’s best for the company’s image or branding. 4. You’ll be expected to do things you’re not qualified for
Since you’re a token expert, you will be asked to take on more responsibility than you’re able to handle. This can make your job even harder and make people think that you are not doing enough. You’ll be expected to do things that require more knowledge and skills than you have, like market surveys or creating promotional campaigns for the entire company. Your boss is going to have little use for you if these tasks are beneath your abilities.
5. You’ll be blamed for poor management
Since you are in marketing, you are always going to be held responsible for the image of the organization. So, whenever something goes wrong, you will be expected to fix it plus any other problems that happen before and after. Fixing things like this can be especially hard because your boss isn’t going to give you the time or support that you need. You will have to do all of this while being criticized by the higher-ups that don’t understand what’s required of marketing.
6. Your boss is unlikely to support you
Your boss will assume that you know what you are doing, which makes it hard for them to help. In reality, they don’t really understand what marketing is supposed to do so they are not going to be able to provide the support you need. They’ll be worried about their own reputation and will try not to get involved in things that might make others think that they don’t know what they’re doing. Your boss might tell you that you are doing a great job but they won’t tell others what they think of your marketing or support. 8. You’ll have a hard time challenging your boss
If you try to challenge their way of thinking, it’s unlikely that they will understand how marketing works and how it should be approached for crypto. Your boss will also accuse you of not working hard enough and not being a team player. This means that there will be little room for you to take a leadership role or challenge ideas.
9. You’ll have to deal with trolls
Trolls aren’t going to like having someone they consider an outsider even if he’s been given permission to do marketing. They are going to make fun of how trivial and minor your contributions are, making it more difficult for them to actually notice anything good.
