I think we are all guilty of this. I recently came across a video game called “The Secret of Monkey Island.” One of the game’s characters is played by a young man who is completely un-trained. He is very quiet, yet he is able to communicate with his teammates through signs. He is able to control their movements using only this very same ability. I thought that this was an interesting concept and wanted to learn more.
Well actually, it wasn’t. I had to use a video camera to capture the video and then upload it to YouTube. I suppose one could argue that I was also doing something unethical, but I was just trying to get more feedback from the community.
I’ve also been told that using a video camera is a thing people do when they start getting good. I think that’s a good lesson, because as the community grows, there will be more and more people who are not quite good at certain things. If you feel like you aren’t getting the feedback you want, try not to give it to yourself.
I think its the same thing people do with their phone. We all have our own ideas about the perfect video, but then we just start using it. Thats the beauty of the internet. You don’t have to be good at everything to be accepted here.
Not all of us are good at certain things. I mean we all have our own quirks. I think people who are good at video editing are the exception rather than the rule. Ive been trying to cut my teeth on the “editing” side of YouTube for years. I was a bad editor. However, I just recently realized how good I am at using a camera to make an image I know I am going to like.
The other thing that we’re seeing more and more of on the internet today is the fact that people are using their own equipment to make videos without being trained on how to do it. You see this all over the place. There are some videos that were made in the past where people just sit down with their device and make a video. Sometimes you get to see the outcome of the video and see what they did wrong.
I know I’m not the only one who has seen this, as there are plenty of videos on YouTube (and plenty of websites) where people use their phones to create videos. The point is that people are being given very few, if any, instructions, and for some reason they know what they are doing, so I don’t want that to happen to me.
The same thing is true of most video games. They are usually presented in very basic ways, so it’s hard for us to determine if the person is doing it wrong. We can see the outcome, but it’s hard to see the mistake. I would think there would be a lot of people who would be better at video creation than me.
As for me? I think I’m one of the best video makers, not because I can build cool machines but because I know basic things in a way I would never do in a situation where I might get hurt. I’m also one of the best shooters in the world, as far as I can tell. I’ve also got good range when I put my hands on something.
I can see where some people might argue that there are plenty of people who can shoot a gun with ease. But I think it’s more important to recognize when we need to take the hand off the gun and put it on “the computer.” I have to constantly tell myself that I am not using the gun in a specific way or I am wrong and that it should be on the computer. I do not think video making is hard. I think it’s a good skill to have.
