With summer now in full swing, how about spending your day in a pair of yoga pants and go to a yoga class? This is one of my favorite pastimes and it helps me stay on track with my daily routine. I’ve discovered that a workout of any kind can help me stay in the zone and I don’t have to think about it.
Not only will yoga pants help you stay in the zone, but they are a great conversation starter when you get bored with the usual exercise videos you see on the tube. The most important things are the attitude and the willingness to go for it.
You can thank your favorite yoga instructor for that. When I started going to a different studio every other week, I got into a routine of going to a studio every other day. This helped keep me in the zone, and every yoga class was like a mini-run with friends. I think that it’s a great way to stay on track with your daily routine.
I remember the first time I saw a yoga class where I had a private practice. I went to this place in DC where a teacher showed me a few poses and then we were left alone. I got so interested in them that I tried something I had never done before, and I was just mesmerized. I had never tried yoga before and I was thinking I would never learn how to do it. I had never sat under a tree or done any sort of exercise.
I was there for 10 minutes. I was hooked. I have been practicing yoga since I was like 14, and I’ve been practicing yoga for years. I find that it makes me more focused and more creative. It is something I can always do when I get bored.
For those of you who haven’t done yoga before, or who are new to the practice, or for those of you who are interested, this is a great place to start. As you probably guessed, there are several different variations of yoga, but the three most popular are asanas, pranayama, and meditation. Each is different and will take different types of meditation or stretching. Some are more about relaxing, some are more about strength and flexibility. There are also different styles.
One of the benefits of yoga is that you can incorporate it into your life. In other words, it doesn’t have to be done in a room, it can be done with the whole family in your home.
I’m not saying that it’s impossible to be a yogini, but I wouldn’t recommend it. The first time you try it out, you’ll probably get frustrated that your stomach muscles don’t get enough attention or that you’re not able to fully relax and be comfortable. You might even fall asleep. But you will get better with practice, and you will gradually find your own personal yoga style.
