biodiversity enhances human food security because it reduces the cost of producing the foods that we eat.
As this study of the costs of production found, biodiversity is a very real concern for food security. As the number of species in the world continues to grow, the number of food-producing species is bound to increase, and the costs of food production will continue to rise. This means we have to become more selective about what we eat, which means we have to eat less of different species.
We also have to become more selective about the way we consume it. By making a conscious choice to eat an animal of a certain species, we can reduce the amount of food that particular species produces. Since this study of the costs of production found that biodiversity enhances human food security, and since we already know that biodiversity is a great thing, that leaves us with only one conclusion: Biodiversity has to be included in every sustainable agriculture system.
It’s amazing that biodiversity can increase the food supply for humans (and the world as a whole) so it’s even more amazing that biodiversity is a good thing. I guess when we’re trying to reduce the amount of food we consume, we’re really doing it for the good of the world. And you know what really amazes me? The fact that we can even make a conscious choice to consume an animal of a certain species.
Biodiversity is the product of a very complex interplay between organisms, plants, and habitats. It is the result of all of these interacting, making it a difficult subject to reduce. We can all enjoy biodiversity, but sometimes we don’t know what to do with it. When we talk about biodiversity, we are usually talking about one specific type of species. If we were to have a conversation about all species, we would get a very different answer.
The problem with biodiversity is that it is impossible to know just how much of each species is actually there and how much is just hiding away in a corner. Every time we have someone talk about the biodiversity of an animal, we are comparing apples and oranges. Sometimes an animal is more abundant than we can imagine, and other times we are talking about a specific species we have that is only abundant in a given area or habitat.
Well, that’s not entirely true. There have been a number of studies that show that birds can act as a significant source of protein for people in some parts of the world. Unfortunately, all of these studies are very recent and are flawed because they looked at only a very small number of birds in a very small amount of habitat. It is also very difficult to study exactly how many different species there are across all the different regions or habitats.
In fact, the best estimates of the number of different bird species in a single ecosystem comes from the study of the redbud tree in South Africa, which is thought to be a thousand times more plentiful than the bird itself.
So this is a problem with the study of bird diversity, and a good reason to avoid it in general. The best we can do is to know how many different birds there are in a specific habitat, and how many of them there are in the local environment. It’s not an exact science, but it is a good place to start.
If we know that there are more different bird species in a specific area we can more accurately predict how much food each species can take, and therefore how much we can eat.
