I have noticed these images very early on in my photography career. They are often very evocative, and they have a very strong sense of place. They are a reminder of people doing things, of landscapes, and of the people.
You might not know this, but I have a very strong sense of place. If you know my work, you know that I have a very strong sense of the ocean, the mountains, and the lakes that surround my favorite little village. The images of people walking are my way of telling you that I feel the same way about the people in these photos.
There are so many great places to photograph, but if you’re looking for a way to help your new home reflect the way you feel about the places you’ve lived in the past, then using photography to help with your current home can be extremely powerful. It’s especially powerful if the photos are also images of yourself. So if your home is filled with photos of photos of yourself, it’s a great way to help your home reflect who you are.
I’m going to throw this out there as a cautionary tale. I have a habit of taking photos of myself.
If you have a photo of yourself in your home, chances are you have also taken a photo of yourself in other houses. Its because when we’re young, we’re not exactly sure how to pose. Sometimes you just don’t know how to do it. But if we don’t pose ourselves well, its pretty easy to just take some cheap, shitty photo of yourself and pretend it is a picture of you.
This is one of those things. In my last house, I was having a hard time not letting myself get caught up in the drama of who I was. I guess I was trying so hard to get myself down from the pedestal that I was forgetting about how to be an introvert. That, in turn, led to a lot of weirdness. A lot of stuff I couldn’t do that I would if I was just a regular person.
One of the things Ive found in the last couple of years is that if we’re not careful, the only thing we can do is become more and more self-absorbed. A lot of that is caused by the way we socialize. We go to parties and events and are surrounded by people and talk to people. We spend so much time hanging out with people that we think we ourselves have something to contribute to the conversation.
The only way to really change that was to go to a school of thought called “self-actualization” that focuses on “becoming yourself”. What that means is that you learn to be your own person. If you’d been born that way you probably wouldn’t have been exposed to the whole world and the opportunities we have.
Self-awareness requires going out and doing things that you haven’t done in a long time. We have to learn how to look at ourselves and our lives and decide how to live our life. To do this you have to go to parties. You have to talk to other people. You have to do things you can do. The most important thing is that you realize that these things are not random happenings and that you are what you see and what you do.
I think being exposed to the whole world and the opportunities we have is part of self-awareness. But what’s really important is when you realize just how many opportunities you have to do things that you have never done. We have to learn how to look at ourselves and our lives and decide how to live our life.
